We’ve all been told growing up that carrots are good for our eyes and milk build stronger bones. But do you know there are certain foods you can eat that can also protect your hearing? This week, we’re sharing some tips so you can get familiar with these yummy foods that will ultimately help you hear better.

First things first, veggies.

Broccoli is a good source of vitamin C, vitamin E and magnesium. These supplements keep free radicals from damaging nerve tissues in your ears. They also support your immune system so you can avoid those annoying and painful ear infections.

Another vegetable that’s good for your ears is asparagus. A regular diet containing antioxidant in the form of folic acid can reduce the risk of hearing loss.

Next on our list is fish. Omega 3 and vitamin D are generally found in salmon, trout and tuna. Just two servings of fish a week can lower your chance of facing age-related hearing loss. They also strengthen blood vessels in your ears. Make sure to always add this to your grocery list.

Bananas are full of magnesium and can protect hearing especially for people who are exposed to loud noises. Whether you’re a musician, or someone who works with noisy machines, this nutrient safeguards your inner ear bones. Bananas are popular in the Kirsch household – we always add it to our morning smoothie or also enjoy it dunked in dark chocolate for dessert.

And while on the subject of dark chocolate – this tasty treat is also great for your hearing health. There is zinc found in one of our favorite sweets and it helps fight deficiencies as we grow older. So make that a guilt-free dessert choice next time and grab a bar or two.
